Carson completed radiation on December 7th and is now on 12 months of chemo maintenance. On the first day of every cycle, he goes to CHEO for lumbar puncture intrathecal chemotherapy. He receives a dose of a chemo med called tamoxifen once daily for the entire cycle, and then on the 14th day, he starts receiving a dose of another chemo med called Accutane twice daily. These meds are low-dose chemo meds. So far, Carson's hasn't had any side effects.
Carson had his first day of jardin on February 23rd. He goes to school from 12:30-2:30 four days a week. He is very excited to see his classmates and teachers. He's already received an invitation to a birthday party. On his first day, the teacher organized a Superhero themed day, and Captain America came to take pictures with the students.
Carson just completed a session of Sportball, and he's back on the ice brushing up on his skating skills. He gets tired and has back pain, but it's amazing how much his mobility and strength have improved over the last few months. He's signed up to play baseball in the spring and soccer in the summer.
We are pleased to announce that Carson's last MRI was CLEAR of cancer. He will continue to have MRIs every three months. Also, his kidneys have healed, and he will only need one more dose of Eculizumab. He will be getting his Broviac (central line) removed at the end of the month but will keep his G-tube because he still receives formula daily, and his meds are administered through the tube.
